2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
We all get to experience a moment of weakness everyday. Sin is a form of weakness that most of the time we are not aware that we have fallen into and unless we are being reminded by the Holy Spirit, the only time we realize we have sinned is when we’re already suffering the consequences of it.
But what if we are suffering from something which isn’t a consequence of sin? Just like what happened to Paul. He pleaded to the Lord to remove the painful thorn on his side. Like us, we all have thorns on our side–a financial situation, a relationship problem or a painful past that keeps on haunting us–that no matter how many times we think of pulling it out, it only digs deeper into our side.
My thorn was in a form of a financial difficulty. I learned a lot through the experience, giving me an unforgettable lesson and simplifying my life along the way. From time to time, I still experience not having enough money to buy something that I want but come to think of it, God has always provided everything that I need. At the end of the day, His abounding grace will always be sufficient for me (be still my heart and seek His face).
I’ve learned to focus on Him as I encounter different situations each day. Yes, the journey with Jesus isn’t all that boring as other people think but you know what? Since I’ve experienced not having a relationship with the Lord before, I don’t think I would want not to walk with Him again. There may be trials of different sorts, reminding me how weak I am and how much I’m in need of a Savior, every single day. Apart from Him, I can’t do anything. One thing I always experience, the more I ask for His grace, the more I experience His glory, the more I am amazed, the more I am overwhelmed.
